Fabulous Guacamole!

In case you want to add a little bit of Mexican flavor to your get together here is the basic recipe for a good guacamole.

Ingredients:
  • 2 ripe avocados, peeled, pitted, and lightly mashed
  • 1/2 cup minced onion (preferably white onion)
  • 1 jalapeno chile, minced (remove seeds and ribs for less heat)...I personally use just a little bit of chili powder or valentina powder
  • 1 plum tomato, seeded and diced
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • Coarse salt

Directions:
In a bowl, combine avocados, onion, jalapeno, tomato, cilantro, and lime juice. Season with salt, and mix to combine.

And if you are not a beer fan you can always cheer your team with a Skinny Margarita!!!

Great Valentine's Bouquet

There is nothing that lights up as space as a great flower
arrangements...and I love this idea from Martha Stewart.
Tools and Materials
2 nesting glass vases or containers (such as a drinking glass), one shorter and at least an inch narrower
Cinnamon heart candies (about 1 1/2 pounds)
2 dozen tulips
Rubber band
Floral or other knife

1. Place a vase inside another that's taller and at least 1 inch wider; if the rims don't align, add candy to the outer vase to eliminate the height difference. Fill the gap between vases with candy. Fill small vase halfway with water.

2. Secure stems of a tight bunch of flowers with a rubber band; trim evenly with a sharp knife.

3. and woila....

I am going to try and do this arrangement but instead of candy I will use white stones.

Enjoy!

Green Wednesday

Last week I talked about the essential fruits an veggies you need to buy Organic.

Another small change you can do that goes along way in your diet is to buy Organic milk and eggs.

Why Milk?
Studies show that milk with rBGH (artificial growth hormone) cows has higher than normal levels of naturally occurring hormone,IGF-1, that's associated with breast cancer, prostate, and colon cancers.

Fix
Buy Milk that are Certified Organic , which comes from cows that haven't been treated with antibiotics or hormones.
Why  Eggs?
Chicken are routinely administered antibiotics  and many farmers even add arsenic to to chicken feed, which makes it s way into the meat and eggs.

Fix
Buy only certified organic eggs. You will probably find other labels such as "Free Range" or "Cage Free" but that does not mean that the animals are fed antibiotic or hormone free diet.

If you check your Sunday newspaper you can find coupons that will make this products more affordable or you can buy them at BJs and Cosco.

Let me know if you find this helpful and if you would like to get more tips in how to green your life one baby step at a time.

Arts & Craft

Even thought we are past Christmas I wanted to share with you what I did with a couple of craft tools from Martha Stewart Craft Collection...

I did the boxes for the teachers Christmas lunch and each box was filled with home made cookies plus Argentine "alfajorcitos".

Basically I cut two circles in different sizes and then glued the snow symbol.

And if I can do it..believe me anybody can, since I am the least crafty person. I have always been more "bring me a math problem..but please don't make me do crafts..."....Mother was so surprised!

You can find Martha Stewart's products at Michael's or at Walmart.

Here is a sample of a punch..
Have you ever done something that totally surprised you? What was it?

Drink but do not cheat...Try a Skinny Margarita!

    Good Morning!

Just a quick message before I leave to school with the kids....by the way my kids to go Montessori Academy and I love their program. I couldn't be happier with the school.
If you have a Montessori school near you I encourage you to check it out.

Even though is to early to talk about drinks....but I wanted you to have the recipe in case you are planning on going out today or maybe tomorrow here is the"SkinnyGirl Margarita" recipe.

I learned about this drink from Bethenny Frankel. She is a celebrity natural chef.
    She is fabulous!!!

You can check her out at http://www.bethennybakes.com/index.html or you can go to YouTube and do a search for her..you can find a couple of great low calories and healthy recipes.

    SkinnyGirl Margarita

    For One Serving:
    • 2 oz Clear Tequila ( Sauza or clear premium tequila)
    • count 1, 2 while you pour.no need for measuring
    • a splash of fresh lime juice
    • a splash of Cointreau, Grand Manier or Triple Sec
Combine all the ingredients over a glass with ice.

Garnish with a lime wedge and salt (or sugar) if you would like.

If yo want you can add some club soda..(this is my personal suggestion if you do want something even lighter).

    Organics Dos & Don'ts

    Hello all!!

I hope you are having a good week!! My husband is travelling today so I am on call 24x7..
I love it because it is cold today and reminds me of my hometown in Argentina.. one day I'll share more about my hometown.

Well we officially start today our Fabulous Green Wednesday..that means that every Wednesday I am going to be posting on how to live greener and better...from cleaning the
house..to feeding the family..to beauty products..to thing we can do to preserve our world!!!

There is so much Buzz about eating organic that sometimes it is hard to decide. Do we buy organic? is it more expensive? what to buy organic?? So let me try to bring some light:

    1. Buy Seasonal Foods

Go for what is in season...it will always be better quality, less pesticide and less expensive!!
    2. Local Foods

Try to find a Farmer's market near your area.  By buying  locally it is more likely that you will be buying produce in season and you will be saving in transportation costs ( less carbon foot print) . Also, local farmers since the product does not need to travel much they do not neet to use much pesticide.

You can search for a Farmer's Market:

    or here

    3. Buy Organic

Organic means the food is produced without  the aid of artificial fertilizer and pesticides. Organic food is important because is better for your health and for our planet.... I personally think that we need to make as much effort as possible to feed organic food to our kids...it will make a big difference in the long run on their health.
You do not need to go organic all the way, but there are some produce that you need to go organic because of the level of pesticide.

Top 12 Fruits and Veggies to buy Organic
    1. Strawberries
    2. Bell Peppers (green and red)
    3. Spinach
    4. Cherries
    5. Peaches
    6. Cantaloupe
    7. Celery
    8. Apples
    9. Apricots
    10. Green Beans
    11. Grapes
    12. Cucumbers
I personally make a comparison on price and buying organic end up being 15% more..so it is not that much when you think the impact on the health.

Fruits and Veggies that you do not need to buy organic (meaning they have the least amount of pesticide)
    1. Avocados
    2. Corn
    3. Onions
    4. Sweet Potatoes
    5. Cauliflower
    6. Brussels Sprout
    7. Bananas
    8. Plums
    9. Green Onions
    10. Watermelon
    11. Broccoli
    12. Plums
If you do not want to go grocery shopping you can always buy organics online at

If  not just get your hat...grab you basket and visit a local farmer market on a Sunday looking Fabulous and feeling Fabulous  because you know you are taking care of your family and yourself!!!!

I really hope the list helps you when deciding what to buy where  and what to buy organic!!!
Please let me know if you find this information helpful!!

I hope mi kids sleep tonight..if not tomorrow is going to be a looong day!!!
    Have a good night..and a wonderful Thursday!!

    What a day!!

    Hello all!!

What a day today.. I spent most of the day just watching all the festivities surrounding the Inauguration. I can honestly say I was brought to tears on Obama's speech. Although, those that know me know that that is something not very difficult since I am known from expressing my emotions easily.

I hope you where able to watch his speech...here are a couple of extracts from his speech that really touch my heart:

    "...........
Today I say to you that the challenges we face are real, they are serious and they are many. They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. But know this America: They will be met.
    ...............
We remain a young nation, but in the words of Scripture, the time has come to set aside childish things. The time has come to reaffirm our enduring spirit; to choose our better history; to carry forward that precious gift, that noble idea, passed on from generation to generation: the God-given promise that all are equal, all are free, and all deserve a chance to pursue their full measure of happiness.
    .......................
In reaffirming the greatness of our nation, we understand that greatness is never a given. It must be earned.
    ................
Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America.
    .......................
The question we ask today is not whether our government is too big or too small, but whether it works, whether it helps families find jobs at a decent wage, care they can afford, a retirement that is dignified.
    ................
And for those who seek to advance their aims by inducing terror and slaughtering innocents, we say to you now that, "Our spirit is stronger and cannot be broken. You cannot outlast us, and we will defeat you.
    .................
To those leaders around the globe who seek to sow conflict or blame their society's ills on the West, know that your people will judge you on what you can build, not what you destroy.
    ..................
For as much as government can do and must do, it is ultimately the faith and determination of the American people upon which this nation relies.
    ..............
Our challenges may be new, the instruments with which we meet them may be new, but those values upon which our success depends, honesty and hard work, courage and fair play, tolerance and curiosity, loyalty and patriotism -- these things are old.
    ....................
..let it be said by our children's children that when we were tested we refused to let this journey end, that we did not turn back nor did we falter; and with eyes fixed on the horizon and God's grace upon us, we carried forth that great gift of freedom and delivered it safely to future generations."

As i was watching his speech I felt proud that y kids are going to be able to presence such a transformation  in this country...and I prayed for him and for every leader in this world to come together and work together to obtain Peace and prosperity for every nation..!!!

If you where not able to watch the full speech today you can read it

Regardless of where you are or what you do today is a day to celebrate!!!!
By the way I did not cheer with champagne but I had a good glass of California's Chardonnay to cheer the new President.

I am extremely gratefully to have been able to watch history in its making!

    God Bless you!
    good Night!!
    and see you tomorrow!
