Beauty Tips by Tracie Martyn

Tracie Martyn, the skin-care guru of the stars (she works with Madonna, Kate Winslet & many more) recommends that you drink lots of water & green tea..and to her water she adds a teaspoon of liquid chlorophyll. Apparently, it works as an anti-inflammatory to help soothe the skin...!

At $8 per bottle I am willing to give it a try...why not??

You can buy the product at Mother Nature.com or probably at any Whole Food store.

Good bye...I promise you I won't miss you!

I usually write in a paper with very strong lines..but today, today I want to start with a white canvas, reflecting on the way my life in terms of the future is..a white canvas...
Life is seductive in that way, you always have the excitement of what's coming next..unless, you allowed yourself to fall in a comfort zone..that comfort that gives you an unrealistic feeling of "control".
Growing up I was always so afraid of the word "routine", I felt like the best part of life was having no routine. My fear was that "routine" was going to get a hold of me...and would never let go. And you know how it goes, that which you fear you attract.

So, routine got a hold of me in a very subtle way..little by little I started to enjoy my breakfast routine ..get up, get some coffee, prepare lunch for my kids school while my husband was cooking breakfast... Then it took even more control of me, by allowing me to enjoy weeks knowing what was ahead every day..and before you realized it...I slowly learned to embrace my life routines...up to the point that my life became my routine.

Until today that I got the courage to look "routine" in the eyes and told him:
...Thank you...because you carry me through some tough times in my life..because you gave me a  sense of accomplishment just by following you...but I don't need you anymore..I am OK now...and even if I really don't know what the future will bring my way..I am back in my two feet ready to embrace it....
You can go now..because I need some space to welcome my new friend "fear of the unknown"..and I am throwing a welcome party for him!

Tomorrow I will start a new day..and I will cook breakfast myself!

An Historic Shouthern House in Neutral Tones

Eric  Cohler's home is Charleston is a place where the past and the present coexist toghether under the same room.

Cohler defines his style as traditionalist with an appreciation for contemporary design. He refers to the interiors of the house as " Classical veneer with a modern core".

Even though the house still conserves the authenticity of the original 1809 architecture the modern design does not seem to give  a decontracte look, contrary, they bring a light to each other.

He played with a very neutral palette but brought a modern flavor with zebra pillows, rugs and benches, graphical rugs (from William Sonoma) and modern art.

Do you like zebra accents in the house?

Hermes - A Touch of Class

I think class is something you subtle suggest, not something you throw into somebody face. That's the reason I believe just a little t
ouch of a classical piece goes along way..and it keeps you wanting more.

It shows that you do not need to be covered with somebody else brand name all over you to feel fabulous...because you already are Fabulous. You use the brand not the other way around.

That's what I love about this classical timepieces from Hermes....

Love the hair chignon, specially in winter..hair up, great scarf, jeans & white shirt..and voila!
The bookmarks are Marc Jacob's favourite item..to the point that he gave them as presents to his friends. Love to be one of his firends!!

Jessica Alba shows her Green Home

In Style Magazine did an article on Jessica Alba sometime ago that I wanted to share with you!.

Although, I am not a fan of her I applaud her commitment for living green and taking it to the next level! More power to her!

What inspired me from this article is that you can actually build a beautiful green house. Obviously, there are different levels of green...her house does not run on solar power but she did as much as I think any of us can do at our own houses. At the end, you can have a green house by just simple not buying new furniture, painting with chemically free products and other tiny changes...

They chose a saltwater pool...the best way to avoid swinging in chemicals. Specially, if you have kids since it does not irritate the eyes as chlorine does. And you can close your eyes, taste the water and picture yourself somewhere in the Caribbean!
Believe or not they used synthetic turf..I know this is the way to go (no maintenance required and no pesticide) but I am not there yet. I am more for living a more greener natural life...sorry no fake for me!

They decorated the house using all recycle furniture from antique stores, flea markets and Alba's previous furniture!

Another green choice..no carpet! A couple of years ago I took away the carpet from my house and I am so happy with the decision. Overall, in addition to all the chemicals found in carpet I just think that they are just dirty and much more high maintenance.

Do you like her green house? and her green choices?

Solutions for cleaner water

If you decided that you need or need to invest in some type of water filter you have different options:
1. You can invest in a water pitcher bottle that clean your water. The pros: is a relative small investment that you can implement it in your next visit to the supermarket.

2. You can install a couple of of faucet filters ( one in the kitchen..maybe one in the bathroom). The pros: a relative small investment, you make sure that the water you drink and cook with is clean and you can do it yourself.

3. You can get a whole house filter installed where your main water line enters your house. The pros: you make sure that you dink, cook and showered in clean water. The cons: a bigger investment and you need a very handy husband or you need to hire somebody to do it.

You can also research all these products on Prestine Planets.
If you are investing in organic veggies and fruits but then you washed them in water that is not chemically free you are still consuming some level of chemicals.
You don't really need to go all the way, just doing something will put you on the path of living a healthier life!

Eco Friendly Comparison Shopping

Today you can find comparison shopping tools anywhere you go (google, yahoo, etc) but what I really like about Pristine Planet
is that searches on Eco friendly products. You can also find, coupons, keep learning on ways of living green and customer reviews! The motto is:

Browse. Compare. Review. Shop

So for instance, you want to invest in a water filter you can get a comparison of all the different options you have out there plus pricing...

It is one of my guilty pleasures!!

Water...fresh, clean water!

Fresh clean water is a necessity not a luxury..

The EPA estimates that more than 2100 known contaminants and toxic chemicals are in our drinking water, several of which are known poisons and carcinogens.

Bottled water might be cleaner ( although you can also question this but let's keep going)..but it produces a mountain of plastic waste, plus is more expensive than you think.  Do you know you can save $500 in a year by breaking a bottle-a-day water habit?

The first thing you need to do is to find out just what's coming out of your faucet so you can protect yourself and your family!

A couple of things you can do:

1. You can get your own test kid for your house.

I bought mine at Discover Testing. You have all sort of water testing but I got the All-in-one-water test kit (price at $19.95). I used it on my regular faucet and I also wanted to test the water coming out of the fridge ( my kids drink water from here all day).

2. You can check the EPA report for your municipality here. Although many articles have been written about the reliability of the reports. Being more of a control freak I wanted to do it myself..but this is still an option

3. You can hire a private firm to test your water.
To see resources on your country I suggest that you either call you city council or (my favourite) you can google it.  If living in the US, you can call 1.800.426.4791 (EPA's safe drinking water hotline)

Just a tiny change in habit can go along way...you can save money, save the earth from unwanted plastic and most important you are making sure your family is on the way to a healthier lifestyle!

How to accesorize a dresser by Eddie Ross

If you are looking for some inspiration on how to accessorize a dresser in your living room, bedroom or just a hallway, Eddie Ross is the interior designer to go to.

In very simple steps he shows you how-to accessorize a simple dresser. He not only walks you through it, but he explains it in a way that you can apply what you learned in any other projects in your house.

What I really like about Eddie Ross is his ability to present each project as very reachable to the point that you can just turn around in your house and be inspired to create.

He uses a dresser found at an antique shop. The new recesionista way to shop..!

He starts with a focal point adding the mirror and the lamps. he then keeps adding elements to the project.

And voila!....you have a fabulous little dresser to make your house look like out of the magazines.

If you like the project please go here to get a step by step guide with fabulous explanations.

Thank you Eddie Ross for being such an inspiration!
